Season 1 Episode 2 “Country Girls”- Little House on the Prairie

Mary and Laura Ingalls start school for the first time in their lives. The school kids tease them at first, especially Nellie Olsen. She calls Mary and Laura “country girls” because of their simple way of dressing and their lack of schooling. Laura finds that it’s hard to keep her words to herself when Nellie makes her angry. She learns to stand up for herself.
Mrs. Ingalls also has unpleasant dealings with Mrs. Olsen, who won’t give her a fair price for the chicken eggs she is selling to the Olsen’s store. Mrs. Ingalls realizes how difficult it’s been for Laura to control her temper around Nellie Olsen. Both Mrs. Ingalls and Laura find ways to resolve their issues with the Olsen’s.
Mrs. Ingalls surprises Mary and Laura with new dresses she made from the material she bought with the money she earned from selling eggs to the Olsen’s store. The girls wear their new dresses at the school’s open house for the parents. Laura and Mary both give speeches about their hard working parents and how much they love them.
